This Privacy Policy explains how RIDE ("we", "us", "the app") handles your personal data. The data controller is Gurbe Willebrords, reachable at info@ride-app.eu.
We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics tools, and we do not collect payment details. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple.
Your profile, rides, routes and workouts are stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). We cannot browse this data as a developer. It is stored in the European Union and protected by your Apple account.
If you turn on "Save rides to Apple Health" and allow it when your device asks, RIDE saves every ride you keep as an indoor cycling workout in Apple Health, with its duration, active energy, heart rate, power, cadence and distance. RIDE only writes to Apple Health and never reads from it. What RIDE saves there stays on your device and, if you sync Health with iCloud, in your iCloud account, under Apple's control. RIDE does not send it to us or to anyone else. We never use data from Apple Health for advertising or marketing, and we never sell it.
You can turn this off in RIDE under Settings > Connections, and withdraw the permission at any time in the Health app or in your device settings. Workouts that RIDE has saved stay in Apple Health until you delete them there. Deleting a ride or your account in RIDE does not remove them.
You can connect RIDE to the fitness services we support. Connecting a service is always your own choice, made in Settings > Connections, and you can disconnect at any time. When a service is connected and automatic upload is on, RIDE sends every ride you keep to that service as a FIT file. A FIT file contains the date and time of the ride, its duration and distance, and the recorded measurements such as power, heart rate, cadence and speed. For a route ride it also contains the positions along the virtual route you rode, not your own location. Rides you discard are never sent.
You sign in with the service itself, so RIDE never sees your password. RIDE keeps the access key the service gives it in the keychain on your device. When you disconnect a service, or delete your RIDE account, RIDE deletes that key.
Once a ride has reached a connected service, that service is responsible for it under its own terms and privacy policy, which you can read in the app when you connect it. RIDE cannot change or delete rides there; you do that in the service itself.
Because a ride contains heart rate, which is health data, we send it only with your explicit consent, which you give by connecting the service (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). You withdraw that consent by disconnecting. Some connected services are based outside the European Union; by connecting such a service you choose to send your rides there.
When you send a message from Settings > Support, we receive your name (optional), the topic you chose, your message, the email address you entered so we can reply, and the identifier Sign in with Apple assigned to your account, which lets us connect messages from the same account.
With "Include technical details" switched on, the message also includes the app version, your device model, iOS version, language and time zone and the app's activity log. The log records what the app did recently, including the names of your trainer and sensors and the Bluetooth sensor data between them. With the option switched off, none of this is sent.
We use this information only to answer your message and solve the problem you report. Messages are stored with Google in the European Union and forwarded to our support mailbox; Google processes this data on our behalf. Messages and logs in storage are deleted automatically 90 days after they arrive, and email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your question. To have your message deleted sooner, email us.
RIDE contains no analytics or crash reporting software of its own, and RIDE does not track you. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers), Apple may share crash reports, performance data and usage statistics about RIDE with us. These reports do not contain your name or your RIDE account, and we cannot link them to you. Apple decides what they contain and processes them under its own privacy policy. We use them only to find and fix problems in the app. You can stop this sharing at any time in the same place.
If you test a pre-release version of RIDE through TestFlight, crash reports from that version are shared with us automatically under Apple's TestFlight terms. We also receive aggregated statistics from Apple about downloads and App Store page views, which cannot be traced back to you.
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis (GDPR) |

| Save, sync and show your rides, routes and workouts | Ride, route and workout data | Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)); explicit consent for heart rate (Art. 9(2)(a)), which you give by connecting a heart rate monitor |
| Answer support messages | Support message, email address, optional technical details | Legitimate interest in answering your request (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Fix crashes and improve stability | Anonymous crash and performance reports from Apple | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Save your rides to Apple Health | Rides you keep, as workouts | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) and, for heart rate, explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)), which you give by turning the option on and withdraw by turning it off |
| Send your rides to a connected service | Rides you keep, as FIT files | Explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a)), which you give by connecting the service and withdraw by disconnecting it |
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We only share data with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed to provide the service:
At your own request, RIDE also sends data to the fitness services you choose to connect yourself:
Apple Health is not a recipient: what RIDE saves there stays on your device.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it.
We store your data in the European Union. If a provider transfers data outside the EU or EEA, this is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) in that provider's data processing terms.
A service you connect yourself can be the exception. If it is based outside the EU or EEA, by connecting it you choose to send your rides there. See the section on connected services above.
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
You can withdraw your consent for a connected service at any time by disconnecting it in Settings > Connections. Rides already sent stay with that service until you delete them there.
In the app you can export your data and delete your account under Settings. For anything else, email info@ride-app.eu and we will take care of it. You can also file a complaint with your national data protection authority, in Belgium the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit (Autorité de protection des données).
Data travels encrypted between the app and the services we use, and access is limited to what is needed. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:
RIDE is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using RIDE, their profile, rides, routes and workouts can be removed by deleting the account in Settings, available to whoever controls the Apple Account involved; because this data lives in that iCloud account and not on our systems, we have no separate copy to delete ourselves. If you believe we hold other data about a child, for example in a support message, email us and we will remove it.
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, where needed, tell you in the app.
